Winterberry

I love it when a long-awaited plan comes together!

This dress began a long, long time ago.

In January of 2018, my husband and I went on a trip to Camden to celebrate our anniversary. I took the Saturday of our special weekend to take a pilgrimage to Fiddlehead Artisan Supply in Belfast, Maine. I bought fabrics that were added to my stash and have provided crafting delight for this entire year! This particular lovely rayon challis, Winterberry by Art Gallery, seemed perfect to make a Fen Dress (pattern by Fancy Tiger Crafts).

However… rayon is not my friend! At least not when it comes to neckline. By mid-February, my dress was cut out and I had begun busily crafting away. Neckline take one… take two… take three!! What had I done wrong? Well, by the time mid-March arrived, this project was put away as I assumed “winterberry” was meant for other months!

Fast-forward to July. On a crafting vacation with my (former-seamstress) mom, I begged her to fix the neckline! My bias-tape was too wide! She performed some magical cutting, pressing, and hand-stitching, and helped to shape the bodice of my beloved Fen. (Moms are really lovely).

Which left until the day before our family photos) for me to finally finish this dress of my dreams! I am so pleased with how flowy this version of the Fen Dress turned out. I have not yet had a version I didn’t like – it is comfortable, classy, and easy to layer. All my favorite things!
