For my birthday this year, I gave myself a new craft: knitting! And I think I am finally ready to share my baby steps along this journey.
First, I learned to cast on and complete a knit stitch:

Next, I cast off and then used a mattress stitch to complete my first cowl! It’s a double wrap made out of Malabrigo Rios from KnitWit, and it is so cozy and soft!

Then the kids begged me for cowls of their own. More back and forth, back and forth practice with this whole knitting thing.

I think they were happy!

My next project is one more cowl in a beautiful deep red from the Malabrigo Rios line. What do you think? Am I crazy for taking on a new hobby? Maybe I am… but it is just the perfect handwork to carry around so that I can always be crafty with my on-the-go family. Plus, now I get to sew some new project bags…
PS – if you are in the Portland, Maine, area, I highly recommend KnitWit. They have been so generous to me in recommending patterns and supplies – it’s nice to be a beginner and be so warmly welcomed into this fiber community!
