Holiday Blogging: Ornaments

Now that the holidays are past and I have a few minutes to breathe again, I can catch up on blogging all my holiday makes!

This ornament project was a fun little family project that I cooked up when I realized I would have some extra fabric left over from the kids holiday pajamas. (The delicious animal print is from Windham Fabrics – purchased at Z Fabrics)

First, I cut out around my desired animals to make a circly-oval shape (not too scientific here!). Then I cut out the same shape in a coordinating fabric. I also selected a ribbon for the hanger, and I cut that to about 4 inches.

I sewed around the ornament with a ½ inch seam, leaving about two inches to turn the ornament inside out.

Next, I turned the ornament inside out. The kids helped me stuff them. I used a quick zigzag stitch for the opening. You could definitely handsew and use a slip stitch… but the zigzag made for instant gratification for the kids and for me!

This was such a fun little project – I feel confident we will use these basic stuffy-making skills again before too long!

What handmade gifts did you (or your family) create over the holidays?
